So you want to be a tech diver? Everything about technical diving is heavy – the dives are heavy, the water is heavy, the gear is heavy, the training is heavy, and the money is heavy. With technical dive training you are going well beyond recreational limits – the surface is no longer an option in an emergency scenario. With mandatory decompression you will need to become an underwater problem solver, capable of self-sufficiency. With technical training you’ll learn to plan a dive with exacting detail and precision. You’ll execute dives in the open ocean to depths beyond 130’ and learn drift decompression. You’ll become an expert in post-dive analysis making each plan more precise and efficient than the last.
So where do you start? Technical Diving is like building a house. Without a solid foundation, everything that comes after is going to be in jeopardy of failing. In TDI Intro to Tech we start with the basics – buoyancy, trim, propulsion, deco bottle handling, self-rescue, and SMB deployment. You should have been exposed to most of these skills in your deep diving recreational certification, at the technical level we will refine them to be second nature. Learn more about Intro to Tech.
With a solid foundation the next step in technical dive training is 2-fold beginning with TDI Advanced Nitrox. In this class you’ll learn to conduct dives using gasses with up to 100% oxygen. Learn more about Advanced Nitrox.
Next you’ll focus on TDI Decompression Procedures, which will teach you how to conduct drift decompression dives in a dynamic ocean environment utilizing high oxygen mixes to accelerate decompression. You’ll learn to plan dives with exacting precision and execute them with the confidence required for success. Learn more about Decompression Procedures.
Ready to make the journey into deeper water? Start with TDI Helitrox and learn the benefits of adding Helium to the breathing mix as a way to minimize gas density and mitigate the effects of nitrogen narcosis. Learn more about Helitrox.
